GISBORNE HARBOUR BOARD

AUGUST CARGO SMALLER YEAR’S RECEIPTS HIGHER FIGURES FOR II MONTHS August trade at the port of Gisborne was smaller than in August last year, but the figures for 11 months ended on August 31 show an increase over the corresponding period of the; Gisborne Harbour Board’s previous financial year.

Figures submitted to the meeting of the board to-day by the acting secretary-manager, Mr. K. R. Baldrey, showed that during August 5506 tons of cargo passed inward over the wharves, as compared with 6688 tons during August last year, and that 2027 .ons went outward, against 3405 tons for the same month last year.

The return covering 11 months ended August 31 showed liti,7li2 tons inward, against 03,272 tons for the same 11 months of the previous year, and 33,593 tons went outward, against 33,833 lons last year. This showed an increase of 3490 tons of imports and a decrease of 240 tons of exports. The cash statement figures for the tl months ended August 31. compared with the previous year's figures Cndcr main headings, showed as follows, the receipts excluding rates received for land:—

The works committee expressed satisfaction at the excellent condition of the hull of the dredge A.C. as she lay at the slipway, and it was agreed that it was not necessary to carry out any extensive chipping. Tile accounts committee recommended the acceptance of Messrs. Richardson, McCabe and Company’s tender for 9240 super feet of timber at 45s 8d per 100 super feet, plus sales tax.
