RECREATION WEEK CAMPAIGN CONTINUES Expressing the opinion that the outbreak of war had widened the field of helpfulness for the organisation of physical welfare and recreation work, the Minister of Internal Affdirs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, stated in Wellington that there would bo no cessation of activities for national recreation week to be held between September 29 and October 7.

A mistaken impression, he said, existed in some quarters that members of district committees appointed under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act might be distracted 'by the war and lose interest in recreation week. He was pleased to rend in reports received from a number of localities that there were many men and women who showed great keenness in doing their best for a movement which must be beneficial to people of all ages. “The idea to keep fit and well, especially at this time,” Mr. Parry stated, “is in line with one of our most important activities. An important aspect of recreation week is in demonstrations of suitable forms of exercise and recreation, outdoors and indoors, of which the organisation would greatly help in imparting knowledge, in the same way the exhibitions of hobbies would be helpful. “Even a little thought by any reasoning New Zealander,” added the Minister, “will surely convince him that the decision to go on with recreation week is in all ways in the interests of the country.”
