TRAGEDY OF POLAND BRITAIN’S STRENGTH (British Official Wireioss.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 21. Replying a debate initiated by the Leader of t • Opposition in the House of Lords to-day, the Foreign Secretary, discount Halifax, said that Britain's ability to go directly to Poland’s assistance was one of the tragedies of the last few weeks. Britain’s main objective, he said, was to secure victory and not to do anything that would militate against it. He saw Britain’s great strength in every field, no less in industrial and civil than in military, naval ana air, gradually massed, organised and making its weight more and more felt.
