A recommendation to the United Fire Brigades’ Association to the effect that, it endeavour to make arrangements in the case of firemen who leave on active service so that their time on active service counts as time served in the 'brigade from the point of vipw of long service decorations was passed at the quarterly meeting of the Wairoa Fire Board.
The board’s delegate on the Emergency Precautions Committee, Mr. W. H. Flint, was instructed to raise the question of retired firemen temporarily filling the vacancies of men who might, leave the brigade on active service so that their jobs might be kept open when they return. Superintendent’s Report Reporting on the workings of the brigade, the superintendent, ’Mr. W. Bainbridge, stated that three calls were received during the quarter. The first call was to a dance hall in Carroll street owned by the Anglican Maori Mission. The outbreak, which was well alight on the stage portion when the brigade arrived, was easily subdued.
