REP. POINTS

O’BRIEN THE LEADER SHORT BEST TRY-GETTER SEBIRE HEADS JUNIORS GISBORNE RUGBY TALLIES By “Emergency” As in the club series, Matt. O’Brien, the Poverty Bay goal-kicking forward, was an easy winner in the individual points tallies for players in representative Rugby matches during the season.

O’Brien scored 65 points in club games and this, added to his total of 45 for representative matches, gives him 110 points for the full season. O'Brien did not play in the final game with Wairoa on Saturday and, had he done so, he would have had ample opportunities to further swell his points tally, as several kicks which, to O’Brien at least, would offer little difficulty, were missed by the Bay goalkickers. For the six games in which he played O’Brien averaged 7.5 points per game.

Dick Short, who scored four tries for Poverty Bay last Saturday and one try against the Bush team in Pahiatua, is second on the list, and Arthur Read, with four tries, is third. For the Bay B team, McG.rannachan was the best scorer with 20 points, an average'of 10 per game, Read being next with 18 points, scored from six tries. Five of these tries were scored in the match against Waikohu-Motu in Matawai.

In the junior series, 11. Sebire is the leader with 15 points, R. Carroll being second with 12. A lield goal scored by Clay gives him the lead in the third grade series, there being only one game played in this division. Only two field goals were scored for the Bay during the season, O’Brien getting one for the seniors in Napier and Clay scoring for the third grade team by the same method against the visiting Suburbs team. Fifty-two tries were scored by the Bay teams, 34 were converted, and 11 penalties were kicked. Points were scored for the various teams as follows:
