Paris messages report that the aerial activity on the Western Front is noticeably increasing, although the operations of the land forces are still confined to skirmishing tactics and heavy artillery exchanges. Military despatches reaching Paris report that British and French planes successfully engaged enemy planes in dog lights and shot down several.

The French infantry in a series of sharp, local engagements advanced the French lines closer to Saarbrueken and Zweibrucken and are reported to have reached the outskirts of the latter city which is one of the most strongly fortified outposts of the Siegfried Line. Raiding parties made contact with German patrols along a line of 100 miles from the Luxemburg frontier to the south-east. The Rotterdam correspondent of The Times says the Germans state that the remainder of t he Polish Southern Army surrendered after hard fighting.

A Berlin message states that the Polish port of Gdynia has been renamed Ashgotcnhaven.
