Last Night’s Forecast
General Situation: An extensive depression is crossing the Dominion, the lowest pressures being in the south. Barometers arc rising rapidly in the south-west Tasman Sea.
Forecast: Winds north-westerly at first over much of the Dominion, strong about Cook Strait; otherwise moderate to fresh; a temporary southerly change in the south tonight, however, and a more definite one advancing northwards during Friday. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising about Foveaux Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh northerly winds, but a change to strong southerlies advancing from tlie south; seas moderate in the north, rough elsewhere. Weather: Becoming cloudy to overcast almost generally; rain probable in eastern and southern districts' of the South Island and gradually extending northwards. Temperatures: Colder with the southerly change, and some snow possible in Otago and Southland and in the ranges further to the north. To-Day’s North Island Report Overcast conditions prevailed at Wellington this morning, but there were blue skies at Auckland, Tauranga, Opotiki, Gisborne and Napier and at several other weather stations. The barometric pressure was steady and the temperatures at !) a.m. ranged up to 62 degrees at Cable-point, ill at Gisborne and Napier. 59 at East C'apb and Cane Maria Van Diemen. 58 at Taurattga. and 55 at Wellington. The wind was variable and only at Cape Palliser was a strong breeze reported, conditions' being almost calm elsewhere. The sea at Cape Palliser was still rough, but if had moderated at Wellington, arid at other places -was mainly smooth Midday Forecast General Situation: Pressure is high in the north and south-west, but a depression in the Tasman extends across the middle of the Dominion. Forecast: Moderate but freshening northerly winds. Weather: Mainly t fair. Temperatures: Mild. Seas: Slight *to moderate.
