“CHAOTIC POSITION”
PLIGHT OF TRADERS CONTROL OF PRICES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. “The whole position of traders has reached an imoasse; it is chaotic,” declared Mr. Gainor Jackson, at a meeting of the council of the Chamber of Commerce, when the import control and price stabilisation regulations were discussed.
Attention was drawn to the impracticability of certain price regulation clauses, and it was reported that representations had been made to the Minister by the president, Mr. A. Ely.
Mr. Jackson said there was no such price stabilisation decree in operation in Great Britain, Canada or Australia. Goods were arriving to-day which were costing more, yet importers had not. been allowed to pass on the added'' cost. Furthermore, they were not allowed to refuse to supply goods at prices ruling at September 1.
The president's action in communicating with the Minister was approved.
