AIR EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
AUSTRALIA’S OFFER POSSIBLE 3000 MEN (Reed. Sept. 21, 2 p.m.) CANBERRA, Sept. 21. When making his announcement that an air expeditionary force consisting of lour bomber and two lighter squadrons would be offered to the British Government for service overseas, the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr R. G. Menzies, said'that the dispatch of this force would not reduce Australia’s air defence by a single aircraft and would leave ample personnel for the effective manning of Australia’s own air fleet. The Government had also considered sending ground maintenance staff, but the decision was deferred, pending further inquiry into Australia’s needs. About 550 men would be involved in the air expeditionary force. The force would include 150 pilots, 250 in crews and 150 administrative stair and specialists. If it were decided to send the ground staff, the total force would be about 3000.
