Engineer’s Report

The county engineer, Mr. C. Percy, reported: — “Arakihi Riding—The contract for metalling the Arakihi road is again under way. An early start will be made in building the Kiore road bridge. Part of the 'timber is already on the site. The reconstruction of this bridge is necessary before the season’s heavy traffic is in operation. Money is now available for opening Black's road.

“Tauwhareparae Riding—On the main road the grader has been available to carry out any work, but road surfaces are too sodden for effective work. This also applies to Murphy’s, Tutamoe and Spencer’s roads. The contracts on the Huanui road, metalling and formation works will be recommenced during the coming week. “Mangaheia Riding.—The contract for filling the approaches to the Mangaheia bridge is completed. The Mangatokerau road is being regraded throughout, and it is in good order, except at several points where a good top-dressing of shingle is required. When the stone is available tenders will be called for metalling portions of the Mangaheia station road. “Mangatuna Riding.—l inspected Miller's road at the proposed deviation. The present road line at this particular point is not worth while expending money on. A deviation of eight to 10 chains along an easy siding will give a good dry road line. “Tolaga Riding—Patching pot-holes in the'tar seal has been almost completed. “Hauiti Riding.—The regrading oi Waihau road is completed. This road is very Dare in places and top-dress-ing of Panikau limestone would considerably ease the maintenance. Mill road has been opened up.
