Congratulations on his promotion to the rank of captain in the First Hawke’s Bay Regiment were offered to Mr. J. W. Bain, secretary of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, at the monthly meeting of the chamber held yesterday. The president, Mr. I-I. 11. Professor A. Heim, of Zurich. Switzerland, who paid a flying visit to Gisborne during the past few days, left this morning for the north.
