LOVAAL’S BREEDING BRILLIANT EARLY SPEED SLY FOX HOME CLUB INCREASES STAKES By “Trenton” The Avondale Stakes winner Lovaals was .bred by her owner, Mr. B. Goldwa'.er, who raced both her dam, Lomint, and grand-dam, Loloma. with success. Lovaals is the second foal of Lomint, who did not have any further progeny after producing Valtniftt in 1932 until she foaled Lovaals in 1937. Lovaals is a neat, compact filly and displays brilliant speed early. Lovaals is a chestnut filly by Vaals, who stock continue to do very well, l from Lomint, by Catmint from Loloma, by Monoform from Seabird, by Ben Godfrey. It is a branch of the No. 3 family tracing 'to the imported mate Coronaria, by Sweetmeat. Trainer Returns The Gisborne owner-trainer, A. McIntosh, returned home yesterday with Sly Fox and Blonde Princess. Stakes Increased The Whangarei Racing Club has adopted a progressive attitude despite the European situation, having increased its stakps for its spring meeting from £2300 to £2500. In addition, further improvements are to be made to the track and surroundings. Class Horses Neither Smoke Screen nor The Crooner puuled up well at Foxton and their future prospects do not appear bright. On the other hand, Disdain showed brilliance for half a mile and is likely to be improved by the race. Romani Schools The disappointing Romani was schooled over pony fences at Takanini recently and. gave such a proficient exhibition for a novice that there seems every likelihood of his making a successful hurdler when given his chance in this department of the , game. It is not very often that a novice shows such aptitude as Romani, and he may eventually redeem himself for past failures. Will Soon Be Ready Although Silver Quex has oniy been recommissioned for a brief period, she has come on fast and will soon be ready to race. This sister to Round Up shaped well in a work-out over half a mile last week, and it is quite evident that she has lost none of her speed. As Silver Quex has shown winning form up to a mile she should not be hard to place when properly seasoned. Given Every Chance If Peter Pan does not make a successful sire, which is unlikely, it will not be because of lack of good chance. His owner, Mr. R. R. Dangar, is in England, and during the stay there he purchased five well-brecl mares for 'he express purpose of mating them with the dual Melbourne Cup winner. A Recent Purchase Mr. J. Clothier, Matamata, owner of Royal Dance and Te Haka, recently purchased a yearling chestnut colt by Hunting Song—Billikins. He is a well-grown youngster and it is intended to race him as a two-year-old. The same owner’s brood mare by Cape Horn from Lilock produced a colt foal to Siegfried last, Tuesday. This is a particularly well-bred youngster, as his dam Lilock is by Limond from Lovelock. One of Lilock's sons realised 1400gns. at the national yearling sales last January.
