PROMINENT ATHLETE
A. CAJUSKON lIETIHUS . 1 New Zealand’s best all-round track and field athlete, A. Cameron, winner of 12 New Zealand field titles, is reported to have retired <from active competition. Reinstated for amateur competition in the 1931-32 season, Cameron, who was a bdek-marker in cash track athletics, soon established himself as New Zealand’s best fieldevent exponent. He won the broad jump on four occasions, the discus-throwing title three times, the hop, step and jump on four occasions, and once won the shot-putting championship. Although he broke the “native record” for the high jump, Cameron never won the national title, his habit of competing in most of the field events making him a tired man by the time this event came up for decision. Barred from international representation because he had formerly competed for cash, Cameron could not represent New Zealand at the Empire Games. Like many other reinstated athletes, Cameron worked hard for amateur sport, and the success of athletics in North Otago is in no small way due to his sacrifice and enthusiasm.
