KOPUAWHARA NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) Owing to the earlier restrictions in connection with the use of petrol, the visit of the Wairoa Miniature Rifle Club’s team had to be postponed indefinitely, but it is hoped that the match with the Kopuawhara club may be arranged at an early date. The postal shoot against the Tuai club last week resulted in a win for Kopuawhara with 434, against 416.

Owing to the present uncertain conditions and the restrictions on the use of petrol, the ball being organised by the local branch of the Labour Party and set down for last week was abandoned. In its place a very enjoyable social and dance was held last Friday evening.

There have been a groat number of changes among the employees of the Public Works Department along this section of the line within the last few weeks. All houses in No. 3 Camp are once more occupied, and an extra one has been constructed. Among recent arrivals have been Mr. and Mrs. W. Hart and their daughter Phyllis, from Opoutamn, and Mr. Glynn Jones, Napier, who has joined the office staff.

At a recent field day field by the Kopuawhara School’s Model Aeroplane Club, Mr. J. Hamilton, an enthusiast from Wairoa, was a visitor. He gave some good demonstration flights with models of Iris own construction and also gave a very instructive and interesting address to club members on model construction, the best types of models and care of them. Much enthusiasm has been awakened by this visit. Last Saturday, the Basketball club was favoured bv a visit from teams from Nuhaka, who gave a demonstration of the American game. During tire afternoon, a team of five local men played the Nuhaka men, while a local ladies’ team opposed the Nuhaka ladies. As both games were in the nature of a demonstration, no scores were kept.

Mr. D. Tamm is spending ’a holiday in Hastings.—Captain Carew, of the Church Army, spent some of last week visiting at No. 3 camp.
