DEFAULTER SOUND

ROYAL CHIEF FIT * H AWKESBURY WEIGHTS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 19. 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 18. Trainer F. D. Jones to-day reported that Royal Chief's injury was only slight. His leg was almost normal and the horse is likely to fulfil his Randwick engagements. Defaulter trotted and cantered twice round the grass track at Randwick today and, according to Trainer Roberts, he finished as sound as a bell. Roberts is awaiting instructions from Defaulter’s owner, Mr. Greenwood, who is at present in Los Angeles. Roberts thinks that Defaulter wrenched the off lore pastern when he collided with Reading last week. Gold Rod, 9.5, heads the weights in the Quality Handicap at the Hawkesbitry meeting to be held at Rosehiil next Saturday. Te Hero has been awarded 8.5 and Olympus 7.5. Royal Chief and St. Constant, 9.4, are the top-weights in the Clarendon Stakes, in which High Caste and Reading have 7.9 and Beau Vite and Bonny Loch 6.13.

Malagigi, 8.8. and Beauropaire, 7.9. are entered for the Hawkesbury Grand Handicap.
