RAW MATERIAL IMPORTS
N.Z. MANUFACTURERS REVISED PERMITS URGED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The need for revision of manufacturers’ licenses for the importation of raw materials was emphasised at a meeting of the executive of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association. It was stated that, following the outbreak of war, tile system had been upset and, with many licenses valueless, they needed to be revised by changes of venue and of value. “It has immediately become apparent that, in certain cases, the holders of licenses to import materials from the United Kingdom may now not be able to obtain them and may require a transfer to oTher countries,” stated a letter from Mr. M. R. O’Shea, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. “The Reserve Bank states that no action has yet been taken to facilitate these. lam taking steps to have the matter taken up immediately.” Mr. O’Shea added that in the meantime, if the importer desired to transfer, lie must first apply to the Customs Department for permission and then, through his trading bank, to the Reserve Bank. It was stated that many licenses were of no value owing to price increases in the United Kingdom on account of war conditions. The Government would have to make provisions for these factors at an early date.
