MILITIA OF BRITAIN
SECOND CONTINGENT HIGH SPIRITS SHOWN (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 16. 'Notices calling up the second contingent of militiamen came into force yesterday. Throughout the day men of 20 to 21 yeai-s reported at barracks in high spirits. Many were welcomed by the men of the first contingent, who have completed their preliminary training and are now being drafted for technical instruction. The accommodation for the militiamen consists of excellent huts. After September none will be under canvas. Many l-eported one day early in case the uncertain train services made them late
Meanwhile voluntary enlistment proceeds rapidly and the regimental pools are gx-owing fast. A great rush took place during the crisis before the declaration of war, and recruiting has now settled down to a steady stream. A feature of the formation of the reserves of man-power is the controlled enlistment, x-esulting in order and rapid training.
