HIGH CASTE’S FINISH
ROSEHILL GUINEAS WIN ROYAL CHIEF BEATEN GOLD ROD’S SUCCESS

At the Rosehill races on Saturday, High Caste and Reading provided a thrilling finish in the Rosehill Guineas, the former winning by half a head. Wilson’s finish .idl’d place, coming from a long way back and covering more ground than was necessary, was' full of merit. Gold Rod won tile Hill Stakes untroubled by Royal Chief, who was beaten at the turn. Red Sails enhanced his chances in the Metropolitan Handicap with a runaway victory in the Spring Handicap. Results:—-
Camellia Stakes, of £200: 7 , furlongs.—Geebung, 7.4 (O’Sullivan), 1; Mildura, 8.3 (McCarten), 2; Astounding, 7.4 (Lappin), 3. Nine started. A head; a head. Time, 1.25. Rosehill Guineas, 1 mile and 1 furlong.—High Caste, 8.5 (Bartle), 1; Reading, 8.5 (Munro), 2; Wilson, 8.5 (Hickey), 3. Eight started. Prince Aerial was scratched. Half a head; threequarlers of a length. Katanga was fourth. Then came Billposter. Time, 1.50:,’. Hill Stakes, of £G00; w.f.a.; 1 mile. —Gold Rod, 9.3 (McCarten), 1; Royal Chief, 9.3 (Bartle), 2; St. Constant, 9.3 (W. Cook), 3. Four started. Gold Rod led practically all the way and won easily by two lengths and a half, with a similar distance between second and third. Time, 1.39,1. Spring Handicap, of £250; 1 mile and 3 furlongs.—Red Sails, 7.5 (Duncan), 1; Enatic, 7.1 (Lappin), 2; Malagigi, 8.7 (Bartle), 3. Seven started. Pan tier was scratched. Malagigi occupied a, handy position at the turn, where Red Sails came through the field and won full of running by two lengths, with Malagigi threcquarters of a length away "third. L’Aiglon was fourth. Time, 2.21.1. Highweight Handicap, of 7 furlongs. —Disalto, 9.2 (Scanlon), 1; Gold Salute, 8.9 (A. E. Ellis), 2; Bramol, 9.4 (McMcnamin), 3. Fifteen started, including Glenoraboy and Moorsotis, who finished in the ruck. A length; two lengths.
The New Zealand horse Gold Salute, having his first run in Sydney, had a great trip along the inside and finished impressively. This colt is expected to do well here.
