RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS

EVACUATED CHILDREN SUCCESS OF TRANSPORT (British Official Wireless.) Rccd. 9va,m. RUGBY, Sept. 15. According to a statment from the Board of Education, it is clear that the evacuation of children, which began before the declaration of war, has been carried out with great success. Supplementary evacuations are still proceeding in some areas, and theie have been instances in which these have given rise to some delay in the opening of schools. In most ol the reception areas, however, schools aie already either open or expect to open very shortly with double shifts, or some other expedient. The statement continues: “Arrangements for the hiring of additional accommodation or for toe reopening of disused schools are being made in most of the reception areas. It seems likely that at least three-quarters of the schools in the reception areas have opened this week. In the main, the arrangements for the reopening and carrying on of elementary schools arc ‘working well. Little difficulty seems to have been experienced so far owing to the shortage of books and school, materials. “In a good many areas, schools are being opened in the evening for social and recreational activities. In certain areas, arrangements for communal meals are being made.”
