DEFAULTER'S CONDITION
HORSE MAY BE SPELLED AJAX SHOWS LAMENESS {Elec. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 18, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 17. Defaulter appeared at Randwick on Saturday and cantered round the spe-cially-watered grass track, after which he was examined by a .veterinary officer. His leg showed considerable improvement, but apparently he is still a long way from fit. The veterinary officer advised that he be given a spell. He will certainly not be raced for the next two months. Defaulter showed continued improvement to-day and will be worked on the track to-morrow.
Royal Chief is now a casualty. While rolling in the sand to-day he struck himself and injured a ligament of the near foreleg. Royal Chief is unlikely to reappear on the tracks for some days. A report in regard to Ajax in Melbourne reveals that he is lame, but it is not certain whether the seat of the trouble is the foot or the shoulder. F. Jones is taking Moorsotis to Newcastle on Thursday for the Cup. after which he is sending him back to New Zealand as his form is disappointing. Offers to buy Gold Salute are being received, but so far none has been accepted. ,
