FIRST BRITISH CASUALTY
PILOT OFFICER EDWARDS BROADCAST A FAKE (Reed, Sept. 10, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 15. Pilot-Officer L. 11. Edwards, of Pa tea, is the first official British casualty of the war. He was promoted a pilot-officer on April 12. He has been officially posted as missing, and his next of kin in New Zealand notified.
The Evening News states that PilotOfficer Edwards’ broadcast was obviously the typical German fake. “Actually it is a recorded conversation, probably recorded without the airmen’s knowledge while they thought they were answering a few general inquiries from the airmen who brought them down,” adds the Evening News
