NAZIS ELUDED IN LWOW ZONE Invaders Razing All Built-up Areas REMINDER OF BRITISH EMPIRE UNITY Illimitable Resources To Aid Common Cause (Elec. Tel. Copyright.—United Tress Assn.) Uveed. Sept, 16, 2.4i> p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 15. The representative of the United Tress of (Treat Britain at Zaleszczylci says that the Germans seem definitely to have pierced the main Tolish line at live points. The Tolish Army apparently escaped to the north-east from the south, thereby disappointing the German drive against Livow in the hopac oL cutting them off. Heavy fighting continues on the outsknts of Livow. A Polish communique issued in Warsaw states that the German bombardment of open towns has assumed the character of systematic destruction of all built-up areas ana cities not connected with military objectives. The Budapest correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that all hospitals at Tranva, a Slovak medical centre, have been evacuated of patients and filled up with German war wounded. A Copenhagen message states that all German shipyards are working day and night .to increase the fleet in order successfully to challenge the British blockade. The German wireless .to-day announced that the German Commander in Chief, General Von Brauchitsch, visited the German lines near Lodz before departing for Kutno, where the Poles are still effectively opposing the German advance. Devotion to Cause The Ministry of Information in a statement indicating the extent of the Empire’s support for Britain and the cause for which the Allies are now fighting says: ‘‘The stream ot. • messages arriving from all parts of the Empire and colonies for the King have one thing in common. Each is much more than a mere verbal expression of loyalty. All denote that the resources of the Empire will be completely devoted to the prosecution of the war to a successful end—and the British Empire’s resources are illimitable: “The Dominions, more particularly Australia and Canada, are great manufacturing countries as well as great foodproducing areas. These Dominions’ industries do not only sustain the internal economic life, but will help considerably the economic life of the Mother Country. The Dominion industries would not be a luxury output, but basic activities. Iron and steel manufacture, for instance, is now well developed in the Dominions and India. The Dominions and India are also great producers of foodstuffs and raw materials. South Africa’s gold supplies are vitally important. “What the countries of the Empire mean by devoting their strength to carrying on the war is well shown by the statement made in the New Zealand Parliament by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, in expressing the his Government to use all the nation’s resources and provide kinsmen and friends overseas with the necessary food and clothing.”
