The recruiting rate at the Drill Hall has slackened considerably since the first day and only 49 young men ottered their services yesterday for the Dominion’s special military force. District enrolments totalled 180. bringing the aggregate for the metropolitan and country areas up to 4000. Of Thursday's enlistments Hamilton contributed 73, Paeroa 53 and Whangarei G 3. Medical examinations are proceeding slowly and thoroughly. Altogether 50G recruits have appeared before the doctors and 299 have been passed as fit, 177 as temporarily unfit and 30 as permanently unfit. INCREASED VOLUNTEERS (Pt<r Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. An improvement in recruiting was shown in Christchurch yesterday with the enlistment of 91 men, bringing the total .for the city since Tuesday morning to 759. One of yesterday’s recruits is the father of nine children. Another is 6ft. 6in. tall and takes size 15 in boots. WELLING! TON RESPONSE (Par Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. By 9 o’clock last night the’ total of recruiting in Wellington for the special New Zealand force was close to the 1500 mark, including G 1 officers. FOUR SONS VOLUNTEER (P«r Pr«KB As»or.lntion.) DARGAVILLE, this day. A fine response to recruiting comes from the family of Mr. W. W. Ruddell, a Tangowahine Valley farmer. The four sons have enlisted locally.
