EFFORTS REWARDED

POLICE TENNIS COURT AREA IN PEEL STREET As a result of the enthusiasm and hard work of the members of the Police force in Gisborne, officers attached to the local station will have their own grass tennis court available for play this season. The site of the new court is next to the Peel street end of the station, on a section on which one of the police dwellings formerly stood. The house was demolished some time ago and the section allowed to stand idle until this year, when working parties of constables devoted their spare time to levelling and generally improving the section.

The court is being rolled and mowed at frequent intervals and, as a result, is rapidly being brought into shape. A good covering of grass is being obtained and irregularities and depressions in the court are being filled in and levelled off. During the week-end the court will be given a dressing of superphosphate. It is hoped to have the area ready for play about Christmas. The court will provide a splendid recreational area for the men attached to the station.
