NEW BODIES FORMED

Mills and Miss A. Busby, City, -Mesdames T. W. \Vhite and S. Burdett, Te PUia. ; The Maori members explained that they would be happier working on their own, but would look on themselves as members of the association.. •A nominal fee of Is was levied m fever initial expenses, r A junior branch is to be formed, a public meeting being called for today. St. John Ambulance classes are to be formed, with Miss K. Holliver •gs convener and Mrs. R. V. Gully as -instructress. Miss Busby asked if the Repertory •Society would present _ the play, '.‘Aren’t We All?,” the proceeds going towards the funds for patriotic work. It was agreed to do this on Ihursday, September 21.
Waipiro Sewing Circle
' On Thursday afternoon, a meeting of the women of Waipiro Bay was 'll eld in the Library to discuss tile formation of a sewing circle to assist the Red Cross Society, the convener being Mrs. A. R. H. Morris. The aims and objects of the Red Cross Society were explained by the Rev. A. R. H. Morris, who opened the meeting:— The- following officers were elected: President, Mrs. A. R. H. Morris; secretfiry and treasurer, Mrs. W. b. Thompson; committee, Sister b. Macereth, Mesdames S. J. Lee, A. J. W. Duff and C. Otte. . '] It was unanimously agreed that a subscription list should be opened, •and that a “bring and buy” shop afternoon be held on September 23 m The Vicarage” garden, weather permitting, to augment the funds for the purchase of material and wool. Among those present were the Rev, A R. H. and Mrs. Morris; Mesdames S. J. Lee, W. S. Thompson, A. J. W. Duff C Otte, J. Boyce, senior, and B. J Smith: Misses M. Otte, M. Farrow, N. J. Langridgc, J. Otte, S. Macereth, and Christie.
Te Karaka Efforts
A general meeting of all persons interested in sewing and ambulance classes in connection with war emergencv conditions was held in .he Parish Hall, To. Kara,ha, on Thursday afternoon. The meeting was convened bv me president- of St. John’s Ladies’ Guild ana was well attended. There was a general discussion on wavs and means of helping and it was resolved to meet again on the first Thursday in October to complete the arrangements. It was decided to organise efforts to supplement those of the Poverty Bay Women’s Auxiliary Committee, and also to call on all interested to attend the St. John Ambulance ' classes, which commence in the Parish Hall on Monday evening.
