“KITCHEN” EVENING ENJOYABLE DANCE (Herald Correspondent.) : Bowls of lovely spring flowers, daffodils, japonica and aneiotis ■ were used as decorations for the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Bartletts, on Thursday evening, the occasion being a “kitchen and pantry” evening tendered to Miss L. Whiteford and Mr. R. Francis, who arc to be married later in the month. The function took the form of a dance, the music for which was played by Messrs. Lambert Nepia, and Dyce Wilson. Enjoyable extras were played by Mrs. J. Clanachan and Mr. B. Ryan. After the supper interval, Mr. J. French, who acted as M.C., called dn the guests of honour to open the numerous parcels. The task completed, Mr. Francis thanked the donors for their most useful gifts, which he and his future bride would make full use of. Musical honours Were accorded the couple.
. Dancing then continued until midnight, when Mr. French thanked the host and' hostess for the pleasant evening. Among those present were Mrs. J. Borst. salmon and brown floral sheer; Mrs. R. Cameron, old gold floral georgette; Mrs. E. Poole, green and ’.Rack; Mrs. D. Rodgers, black talfeta and matchibg..bolero;. Mrs. V/. Phipps, magenta 'satin; Mrs. G. McArn, salmon floral Swiss muslin; . Mrs. Grieve, floral frock; Mrs. K. Muir, black marocain; flrsi. Brizzell, black frock; Mrs. F. oufiy’,’ henna frock; Mrs. G. King, floral flat crepe; Mrs. Ryan, black
frock; ?flrs. Briffault, brown satin printed in bright shades; Mrs. W. Hibberd, emerald taffeta. Miss L. Whiteford wore a model frock of black taffeta embroidered with sequins, and short white fur coat; Miss Todd, floral marocain; Miss E. French, jade taffeta; Miss J. Clanachan, sunset panne velvet Miss A. West, flora! frock: Miss J. French, sky blue self-spotted taffetas; Miss P. Lahood, primrose taffetas; Miss M. Jackson, floral sheer.
Masters Robert King and David Bell, who have been spending the school vacation with their parents, lei 1 ■this week on their return to Massey College and Wanganui Collegiate School respectively.—Mr. C. Watt, of the staff of the Public Wbrks Department, left on Wednesday for New Plymouth and expects to remain there for six weeks. —Mr. Bryce Briffault, who has been home from hospital for a few days, was readmitted on Thursday.
