TO-MORROW’S STAKES DEFAULTER MAY RETURN AJAX ALSO LAME (Klue. T«l. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 15, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 14. Royal Chief is expected to take the Hill Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. He will be ridden by Bartle, owing to McCarten being required for Gold Rod.
■Royal Chief is a certain starter for the Metropolitan later on, for which lie is one of the most popular selections. He will be ridden in that race by McCarten.
High Caste will have a chance to rehabilitate himself in the Rosehiil Guineas, but will meet-with strong opposition from Reading, Bonny Loch and Wilson.
Defaulter seems to be destined to return home. His trainer is not optimistic over the improvement to his leg, and no attempt is being made to take him out of a walk.
A report comes from Melbourne today that Ajax is showing signs of lameness. His heel is bruised and his preparation meantime is interrupted. Rosehill acceptors are:—

Moorsotis and Glenorabcy, 8.9, are acceptors for the Highweight Handicap, in which there are 20 runners. Training Honours. Royal Chief and Moorsotis took training honours at Randwick to-day, covering a sterling live furlongs in lmin. Isec.
A likely-looking three-year-old from New Zealand, Gold Salute, has commenced serious work with A. Ellis in the saddle, but was not expended over seven furlongs in 1.34. Local horses working nicely are Wilson, Micawber, Geebung and St. Constant.
