(ReccL Sep.t. 15,11.20 a.m.) ( LONDON, Sept. 14. The Polish Ambassador to Britain, M. Raczynski, has sent a note to the Foreign Office urging more effective 'British assistance to Poland. The official Warsaw news agency, in reviewing yesterday’s fighting', states: “The Polish troops, after a fierce attack, recaptured Lodz, from where the Germans retreated hastily, leaving behind arms, ammunition and other implements of war. Our Pozanian ancl Pomeranian Armies, after delivering ferocious assaults, joined each other in the region of Kutno.” A communique broadcast from Warsaw stated that during the night 13 Polish detachments continued to thrust back the i enemy in the immediate vicinity of Warsaw, German aeroplanes continued-to bomb the suburbs in the north and nonh-west of Warsaw. Military objectives were not damaged. The Polish anti-aircraft batteries brought .down three machines. During the night, the Germans bombarded Warsaw with incendiary shells. The Pilsudski Institute of Medical Research was set on tire. The Associated Press reports that Lwow is badly damaged, despite German statements to the contrary. Fires arc blazing in many quarters of the city and there is no water with which to quench them. ■ -•;/ A Berlin news agency claims that the Polish Commander of the Gdynia garrison surrendered the town and German troops entered this morning. Fighting continues to the north. An official German radio broadcast announced three new danger zones to shipping, including Heligoland and the north coast of Germany. _ A communique issued by the German High . Command claims that the ring round Warsaw has been closed in the east. The communique adds that German troops are advancing on Warsaw across the Narew River from Modlin. The Vistula, according to German reports, was crossed at several points north of Sandomierz. Farther south strong forces crossed Ihe Lublin-Lwow road near Pawaruska and Tomaszow. The German troops are rapidly approaching Brcst-Litovsk after capturing the fort of Osowiec, described as the last Polish frontier, fortification. Another German communiquesays:—, “As the result of a battle of Annihilation near Radom, 60 ? 000.> prisoners so far have been taken, including,numerous generals. The Eighth Polish Division, including the divisional staff, surrendered on Wednesday north of Ostrowo and Mazowieka and 6000 prisoners were taken.”
