OBITUARY
.MRS. JOHN' DRUMMOND
Tlie death of Mrs. Catherine Drummond, aged 78, widow of the late Mr. John Drummond, occurred yesterday at her residence, J Berry street, Gisborne, following a short illness. Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, 78 years ago, the late Mrs. Drummond came to New Zealand with her parents about 1809 in the sailing ship Janet Court. The family settled in Dunedin and at the age of 21 Mrs. Drummond was married there to Mr. John Drummond, who predeceased her by 2S) years. After her marriage, Mrs. Drummond lived in Dunedin for a number of years and then came to the North Island, where her husband was engaged in sawmilling. She settled finally in the Gisborne district 35 year., ago.
Although of a retiring nature, Airs. Drummond's kindliness and hospitality won for her a large number of friends and she was well known and respected by many of the older mem■bers of the Maori community. She is survived by five sons, Mr. James Drummond, Frankton Junction, Mr. John Drummond, Whakataue, Mr. Henry Drummond, Hamilton, Messrs. Albert and Harold Drummond, Gisborne, as well as eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. After a short service at her late residence at 2.15 pan. to-morrow the funeral will leave for the Makaraka cemetery.
The death occurred in Picton of a former well-known resident of Waipawa. Mrs. Elizabeth Ferguson, wife of Mr. John Ferguson, at the great age of 5)2 years. Arriving at Auckland in 1808. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson first settled in Napier, where they lived for 11 years before going to Waipawa. They resided in Waipawa for 41 years, and in 1920 removed to Picton.
