PARLIAMENT’S PART
STRENGTH IN WAR-TIME HATED SYMBOL TO HITLER (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 n/m. RUGBY, Sept. 14. In the course of a speech in the House of Commons, the acting-Leader of the Opposition, Mr. A. Greenwood, spoke of the part which Parliament must play in the struggle in which the nation was now engaged.
A war-time technique must be developed which would maintain Parliament as a living institution, he said.
‘‘l believe that in this war the British Parliament will be a hated symbol to Herr Hitler. It will grow in power during this war and not become the atrophied organ of an effete body.” Turning to industry, he emphasised the necessity of control of city industries, and that both labour and capital must be properly used.
