GUARANTEE PRICE

EQUAL TO LAST YEAR? BOARD MEMBER’S MEW It is expected that the guaranteed price to "be announced shortly will be at least equal tb that paid out last season, according to Mr. A. J. Murdoch, member for the northern ward on the Dairy Board.

The Dairy Industry Council, consisting of members of the Dairy BoSrd and representatives of the National Dairy Association, the South Island Dairy Association and the Farmers’ Union, were in conference last week on the butter price for this season. It conferred with the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, on several occasions.

“Wc understand that bur butter has been purchased from the New Zealand Government by the British Government,” Mr. Murdoch said. “It is intended that a statement should be issued as early as possible acquainting the producer with the position. While it is -not possible at the moment to .state what price is to be paid for produce, it is expected that the price will be at least equal to that paid out last year. Dairy companies can with safety make progress payments in accordance with advances made at the corresponding period of the previous season."
