A letter was received from the Napier club agreeing to forgo its right to hold the L.V.A. regatta in Napier this year ’and offering the Wairoa club the opportunity of holding the regatta on the Wairoa River for the purpose of reviving interest and endeavouring to establish the club as an active organisation again. The chairman stated that it was a fine gesture on the part of the Napier club and he moved a hearty vote of thanks to the club for its splendid offer.
The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. J. Scott pointed out that unless the Wairoa club could enter crews in the regatta it would not be in the club’s interest to hold the L.V.A. Judging by the attendance, however, and the enthusiasm displayed it looked as if the Wairoa club would be represented. There was no doubt that the holding of the L.V.A. regatta in Wairoa would do a tremendous amount towards boosting rowing in the district. In his opinion the club would be well repaid for the work entailed in holding the regatta. The dub captain, Mr. M. Johansen, expressed the view that the Wairoa club tould raise sufficient crews to compete in the regatta. It was decided to accept the offer of the Napier club and to hold the L.V.A. r.egatta in Wairoa this year, the date to be fixed by the East Coast Rowing Association.
