Mrs. C F. Whitty and infant have been spending a month's holiday in Wellington! Mr. A. Lund, who has been on the staff of the Public Works Department, Gisborne district, for the last three and a half years, has been transferred to the Air Department, Wellington. The chairman, Mr. C. V. Chamberlain, and Mr. J. R. Gillespie have been elected to represent the Wairoa Elec-tric-Power Board at a meeting on September 21 for the purpose of appointing an executive and sub-com-mittees to carry out the duties under the regulations drawn up by the Government to deal with national emergencies such as earthquake disasters.— Special. Tributes to a popular member were voiced by ihe staff of the Magistrate’s Court, Gisborne, at a function held last evening to honour Mr. P. A. Gavin, who is under notice of transfer to Auckland after several years’ service in the court in Gisborne. The function was presided over by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., who expressed his regret at Mr. Gavin’s impending departure from Gisborne and paid a tribute to his service to the department. On behalf of fellowmembers of the staff, Mr. Walton presented Mr. Gavin with suitable mementos of his service in Gisborne and wished him every success in his new sphere. Mr. Walton's remarks were endorsed by Other speakers, including the repistrar, Mr. E. G. Rhodes, the deputy-registrar, Mr. C. Simmonds, Mr. J. W. Reed, and Mr. C. Fogden, the guest of honour suitably responding.
