EXPLANATORY NOTE
The heavy line marked (1) is the Franco-German frontier running between the Luxemburg and Swiss borders. The narrower line (2) represents the main line of the fighting in the Great War. The line marked by crosses is roughly the position of Germany’s “ West Wall,” otherwise She Siegfried line. The line marked by connected circles is the famous Maginot line, France’s eastern barrier.
