POWER FROM SNOWY RIVER
VICTORIA REJECTS PLAN
“PROJECT NOT ECONOMIC”
MELBOURNE, Sept. 1
Inquiries made by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria have shown that the suggested Snowy River hydro-electric scheme will not be economic in the present stage of Victoria’s electrical development.
A statement, issued by the commission said that the project had not been included among the three considered when the Kiewa plan was adopted. Essential data on the possibility c'f a Snowy River project had been collected and investigations were still proceeding as part of the commission’s statutory duty to ascertain suitable sites for generating stations. No development such as that’ at Kiewa permitted of serious consideration unless it included the metropolitan load, because the cost of developing small outputs was prohibitive.
