Wairoa Wedding
Summerfield—Clifford Charming 1 Fitting Gown St. Peter’s Church, Wairoa, was the scene of a very pretty evening wedding last Wednesday when Mary Eiien, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Clifford, was married to Leslie, youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. S. Summerfield, Wairoa. The Rev. Father A. Doherty performed the ceremony. ( Escorted by her brother, Mr. Maurice Clifford, the bride presented a charmlir.g picture in a fitting gown of offwhite lace chenille, satin bands trimming the hem and neckline, while the back corsage was trimmed with small satin buttons. Her veil of tulle was attached by orange-blossom to a Swiss crinoline bonnet and she carried a white bouquet of hyacinths and carnations. Two bridesmaids were in attendance, the Misses Molly Buchanan and Betty' Beckett, the latter a cousin of the bride. They were frocked alike in cyclamen ninon over taffeta, the bodices being inset with cyclamen chenille lace and the skirt with lace godets. They also wore pale cyclamen Swiss crinoline bonnets trimmed with multi-coloured flowers and carried bouquets of anemonies and cyclamen. Mr. Pemberton .Mayo, Hastings, a cousin of the bridegroom, carried out he duties of best .man, and Mr. Eugene Clifford, brother of the bride, was groomsman. At the conclusion of the marriage ceremony a reception was held at Osier’s tea rooms, where the parents of the bride and bridegroom received the guests. The bride’s mother presented a charming picture in a smart black ensemble, while the bridegroom’s mother Was frocked in a Lido blue matalasse gown. The bride and bridegroom left later on their honeymoon, the former travelling in a Burgundy swing- back tweed coat and silk frock of matching shade with a fur stole. V.A.D. Nurses Training’ Since the outbreak of war the Red Cross Society in Wellington has been inundated with inquiries. Trained V.A.D.’s will enter the public hospitals to-day by arrangement with the hospital authorities and the Health Department. They will each undergo SO hours’ training in hospital work. The V.A.D. nurses have all had three years’ training and are considered thoroughly efficient ir. their knowledge of home nursing, hygiene, and first aid.
