VISITOR WITH CAMERA NEW PLYMOUTH INCIDENT POLICE DEVELOP FILM The use of a camera from the sumnit of Paritutu, at .the port of New Plymouth, brought a Christchurch /outh visiting Taranaki into conflict with the authorities. Although no action was taken under the defence ,-egulations other than temporary conIscation of the camera and the development of ihc film, the incident has been indicated as meriting the attention of the public.
The visitor climbed the rock, it is understood, for , a view to be obtained of the town, to which he was i visitor for the first time. Desirous of having a photographic record of his holiday, he used some film, but on his descent was met by a sentry, who took him to the guard-house. Fie was subsequently taken to the central police station, where a statement was recorded. The camera was retained while the film was being developed.
The regulations might be irksome in such cases, it war, pointed out, but under present conditions their =copc was necessarily wide. It was veil for the public tb realise that in war-time freedom of action had to "be restricted,' and, that being the case, perfectly innocent actions were -'pen tb suspicion.
