f FIRST RACE OF SEASON POVERTY BAY SOCIETY The Poverty- Bay Central Homing Pigeon Society opened the season's programme on Saturday with a race from Napier, an airline distance of 88 miles. A total of 65 birds, representing 12 lofts, competed. The lllying conditions were ideal and excellent performances were recorded. The winning bird, entered by T. Crosby, returned a velocity of 1247.4yd5. per minute, having covered the distance in 2hr. 4min. 52sec. Detailed results were: —T. Crosby’s bird, 1247.4yd5. per min., 1; J. McLean’s bird, 1241.7yd5. per min., 2; R. Hall’s True Blue,l23syds. per min., 3; A. O’Neill’s bird, 1230.9yd5. per min., 4; D. Somerville’s bird, 1221.8yd5. per min., 5; A. McLauchlan’s bird, 1220.7 yds. per min., 6; T. Crosby’s bird, 1219.6yd5. per min., 7; C. Waldock’s bird, 1216yds. per min., 8. Other birds entered in the race were from the lofts of J. Morrison, J. Cunningham, M. Roydes, M. Cook ind R. Davis. Next week a race will be flown from Takapau, an airline distance of 133 miles.
