MAORI WOMAN FOR TRIAL

ALLEGATION OF THEFT SUM- OF £137 INVOLVED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A Maori woman, Materia Brown, aged 44, who was charged on remand with stealing £lB7 10s from an elderly Chinese, Lee Jung, pleaded not guilty in the Police Court to-day and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.

The theft was alleged to have taken Race in Myers’ Park.

Detective Blackburn said when he was interviewing the accused woman at her house on the day of the alleged offence, she ran downstairs and lie overtook her just in time to prevent her from throwing a roll of notes down the lavatory. He recovered the roll, which contained notes valued at £l3l. Later, the accused said she had been given the money to mind.
