DIED AT THEIR POSTS
WESTERPLATTE GARRISON
(Reed. Sept. 11, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 9
A Polish wireless message confirms the fall of Westerplatte, but the truth is different from the German version. It is stated that the defenders died to a man at their posts, not one deigning to surrender.
So far from Warsaw having fallen on Friday as had been claimed by the Germans, its radio station triumphantly broadcast the famous “Polonaise,” and followed it by a military broadcast, despite an airraid which was in progress.
