THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General situation. Pressure remained high to the north. The northern extension of a depression centred to the south-east lies across the South Island, and another depression over Tasmania is moving rapidly eastward.
Forecast. Winds strong and squally, north-westerly at first in central districts, but. decreasing to-mor-row; otherwise, moderate southwesterly to north-westerly predominating. Seas in New Zealand waters: Rough in Cook Strait, but decreasing to-morrow: moderate to rather rough on parts of the'West Coast, elsewhere slight. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh winds, between northwest and south-west, and moderate seas and weather. A few showers arc probable in most districts, but otherwise mainly fair to cloudy, conditions becoming unsettled during to-morrow, however, in western areas of the South Island. Temperatures moderate in the north, cool in the south, with some frosts to-night. To-day’s North Island Report Settled conditions prevailed over the whole of the North Island this morning, and temperatures were mild, Tauranga and Gisborne returning 60 degrees, and Napier 63, while others ranged down to 55 at Wellington. North-west winds were general, of light force, and blue skies were visible at all stations, with passing clouds in a number ot instances. Seas were smooth to moderate everywhere, and visibility was generally excellent. Midday Forecast
General Situation—An rnti-cyclone is centred to th'e north-east of New Zealand and a vigorous depression is approaching from the Tasman Sea. Forecast. —Moderate to .strong northwesterly winds. Weather mainly fair and mild, but with scattered rain developing later in the back country. Slight to. moderate seas.
