WELLINGTON'S LATE RUN
DRAW WITH TARANAKI SPECTACU LA R FINISH (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Recovering well - after being 12 points down at half-time, Wellington drew with Taranaki. 18 points all, at Athletic Park on Saturday. The game failed to produce much high class football, but in the second spell it was spectacular and exciting. The ground was in good order and the afternoon fine. The attendance was approximately 12,000.
hi the first spell Taranaki had the advantage of a s'rong northerly wind and made most ot the play. Lambourn, Wellington's hooker, who has been so successful in representative football this season, was absent from the home pack, and Taranaki gained a majority of the ball from the set scrums. The backs went well indiidually, but showed lack of combinaon. Brown, the first five-eighth.
/as inclined to lob his passes, and ’either Killeen nor J. Sullivan mnciled or passed well. Both scored pectaeular 'tries, however, and were lways conspicuous. Johns, the fullback, played an outstanding game, using the wind to good advantage in he first spell and fielding and tacking excellently.
Of the forwards, Coull and Benton were the best in the loose, and Young vas outstanding in the line-outs. Wellington opened the scoring with a food try by Wright, but after that Taranaki gained the upper hand. Tries vere scored by Killeen, J. Sullivan md C. Sullivan. Johns converted one nd Arnold kicked a field goal. The second spell was the reverse, Vellingto.n scoring 15 points and Airanaki three. Wright, Sherratt and Vales scored tries, and Thomas kicked wo penalty goals. For Taranaki, fohns kicked a penalty goal.
