Defaulter won the Btakos at the Tattersall’s Club meetng at Randwick on Saturday from Acau Vitc and Royal Chief, completing a triumph for New Zealand itorses. Results: —
Tramway Handicap, of £500: I futiongs—Adios, 8.2 (Parsons), 1; Olympus, 7.4 (Fell), 2; Sedenum, 8.7 (Munro), 3. Twelve'started. Adios was set a severe task, as Olympus established a lead which almost gave him victory, but Adios,, was too solid over the last furlong. Half a length; a length. Time, 1.24:,'.
Chelmsford,, Stakes, of £1000; w.f.a.; 1 mile and 1 furlong—Defaulter, 9.7 (.Ellis), 1; Beau Vite, 8.2 (Lappin), 2; Royal Chief, 9.11 (Davidson), 3. All started. A feature of the race was .he great run by Royal Chief, who came from last to gain third place. Beau Vite galloped splendidly and hard pressed Defaulter. The race was run at a strong pace, the first three .urlong being covered in 38isec., and live furlongs in 1.4 J, which made the last half-mile 49Jsec. High Caste, who appeared to meet with interference, was in the middle of the field all the way. The early pace was made by Reading, with Defaulter second and Beau Vite close up. Defaulter went to the front turning for home, and in a great race won by a short head from Beau Vite. Royal Chief was a length away third. Time, 1.54.
