WOOL BAN LIFTED
DEALINGS PERMITTED RESTRICTION OF SALES (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn,) (Reed. Sept. 11, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 9. The ban on deliveries and dealings in wool and tops was lifted on Thursday, when the Wool Control Authority permitted the resumption of trading under license, subject to maximum prices.
Licenses for new sales were restricted to quantities required for immediate delivery, and licenses for delivery were limited to four weeks’ requirements.
Maximum prices were: —Tops, 64’s warp, 26|d per lb; 56’s, super. 21d; 58's, average carded, 18jd; 48’s hoggets, 18id; 44’s, prepared, 17d. Other qualities will be priced proportionately.
I'opmakers have not been prepared to operate at these prices, on the grounds that Ihe margins over fixed prices are inadequate, and no allowance has been made lor increased costs due to insurance.
