FORTUNATE ESCAPE

COLLISION WITH TRAIN KAITI WHARF MISHAP A fortunate escape from serious injury was experienced by a taxi proprietor, Mr. Bruce Jenkins, at the Kaiti wharf last night when he was involved in a minor collision with goods trucks being pushed by a railway engine. With a passenger in his car, Mr. Jenkins was turning on to the Kaiti wharf near No. 2 shed. Near this shed it is necessary for traffic to pass over the railway line to reach the wharf. Just after crossing the line the rear of Mr. Jenkins’ car came into collision with a line of trucks being pushed along the line, the car being carried several yards and, after making contact with the shed, finishing up alongside a power pole. Neither Mr. Jenkins nor his passenger was injured, their escape, under the circumstances, being a fortunate one. The car was extensively damaged on one side, but the glass in the windshield was not broken.
