JOB OF BREMEN

MAY ACT AS RAIDER POSSIBLE SUPPLY SHIP SUBMARINES AND PLANES QUERIES IN AMERICA (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 7. 2.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. G. A Berlin message states it is reported that the German liner Bremen arrived safely at an unidentified neutral port. A North American News Agency dispatch from Paris by Mr. Walter Duranty says that expert circles express the opinion that the Bremen already has been equipped as a commerce raider on the North Atlantic and probably has dashed for shelter in the fiords of Greenland or Labrador, where she took on guns, ammunition and crew without trouble from another waiting vessel with which she had a rendezvous there. There is a possibility also that she will have three or foqr light planes which would aid in the destruction of commerce and act as scouts. Canadian sources suggested that the Bremen may be lying off Newfoundland as a "fuel and supply ship for submarines and aircraft detailed to bombard Canada.

One-time holder of the Atlantic “Blue Riband ” gained at a speed of nearly 28 knots, the North German Lloyd" liner Bremen, of 51,656 tons, is one of the finest vessels afloat. Launched 11 years ago, the liner has consistently vied with other crack ships competing for the Atlantic trade, although it is reported that in recent months anti-German feeling in the United States has resulted in a severe falling-off in passenger figures. Her trade has been from Bremen to New York by way of Southampton and Cherbourg, the completed voyage taking six days.
