PARIS CHEERFUL
RESTFUL NIGHT SPENT FREEDOM FROM ALARMS HUMOUR OF SERVICEMEN CHECK ON PROFITEERING (Reed. Sept. 8, noon.) PARIS, Sept. 7. France spent a restful night without air alarms. Paris remains bright md cheerful. The business of the war proceeded briskly. The French people are not losing their sense of humour, despite the grim outlook, evidence of this being given in signs posted at numerous dosed shops. One typical sign read: “Gone hunting. Return at the end of the season.” To prevent profiteering and maintain the stability of prices the Ministry of National Economy forbids the ictivity of middlemen between producer, dealer and consumer. Offenders will be reported and prosecuted. Shopkeepers are giving special prices to soldiers.
