“MUST WIN WAR”

WHATEVER SACRIFICE LIBERTY THREATENED N.Z. ACTION APPROVED LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Unanimous approval ot tlie action taken by the New Zealand Government in declaring the existance of a state of war against Germany was expressed at a meeting ol the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon, on tlie motion of the Leader of the Council, the Hon. D. Wilson, seconded by the Hon. W. Perry. Mr. Wilson said they had now reached the time when deeds and not words must decide the destiny of New Zealand. It was a fight between democracy and dictatorship, and they must be prepared to prove on the battlefield loyalty to the principles for which they stood. Mr. Perry said they must win the war at whatever cost and whatever sacrifice, because upon tlie result ol the struggle depended their continued existence as a free people.

The council adjourned at 2.55 until to-day.
