WAINUI SURF CLUE ACTIVITIES REVIEWED SECOND ANNEAL REPORT “The patrol of Wainui Beach was again carried out thoroughly and efficiently, many prospective accidents ■being averted by timely warnings| from the patrols, while four cases of first aid were treated at the clubhouse,” states the second annual report of the Wainui Surf Life Saving Club, to be presented at the club's annual meeting next Tuesday. Tiie club has 30 active members, 32 reserve active members, acid 38 honorary members, and the report mentions that during the year those on (he active list who were not attending patrols were transferred to the reserve. "The club was successful in winning the G. A. Nicholls Challenge Cup against the Gisborne Amateur Surf anti Swimming Club on Waikanae Beach,” continued the report. "At the Bay of Plenty' champion-ships held at Ohope Beach, Whakatane. the club won the surf teams race, the R. and It. Bay of Plenty Championship, and was placed second in the bellman’s championship and march past. Visit to Piha Club “During the Easter holidays members of the club visited the Piha club. The surf boat crew were narrowly defeated for the first provincial surf boat championship to in .New Zealand. “The surf boat crews under the capable captaincy of Mr. Robin Sinclair again made wonderful progress. which is fully borne out by the excellent display they gave against Piha. We hope to enter a surf boat crew for the New Zealand centennial championships to be held in Wellington in February.
“As will be seen from the balance sheet, the club has again experienced a very satisfactory year. Owing to the prospect of a continuation- of these times of uncertainty, the committee considers it prudent to conserve the funds as much as possible. We also request the help of all members for the coming year to keep the club in the front ranks of New Zealand surf clubs. Our assets are at present conservatively valued at over £4OO, so that compared with the book value it will be seen that ample provision has been made for reserves.” The report extends the thanks of the club to the Wainui and Gisborne residents and all others who had given assistance during the year.
