GISBORNEITES' SUCCESS , A fine series of successes were registered by Miss Irene Halbert, of Gisborne, in the Wellington Competitions Society’s recent festival, the awards being as follows: ■Singing Classes.—Wellington Competitions Society’s vocal scholarship; special vocal solo for the Music Teachers’ Registration Board of New Zealand; ladies’ vocal solo, Leider, first place; popular song, first place; Scottish folk song, second place; mezzo-soprano test solo, second place; sacred solo, third place; New Zealand composer, third place; radio vocal solo, highly commended. Elocution.—Elocution Championship; Katherine Mansfield recitation, first place; recital in character, ladies’ section, first place; radio voice test from 2YA, first place; reading at sight, second place; humorous stories, second place!
